Dear Mr. Horton: The Township Civilians' Defense Council are at the present time in the process of being appointed, which will be accomplished within the next week. In lieu of the Town Defense Council's appointments we are contacting you people. On May 2nd, there is to be a Home Defense meeting held in the Township of Smithtown under the auspices of the Suffolk County Defense Council and the American Women Voluntary Service. This meeting is to be held in the new school at st. James. The speakers will be Col. J. A. Baer, Chief of Staff of the 2nd Corp Area who is the co-ordinator of Civilian Defense in the Army, Dorothy Buel, head of the Expansion Programs in the A. W. V. S.~ Hon. L. Barron Hill, Chairman of the C. V. D. C. of Suffolk County; Roy Kline, Chairmn of the Smith town Defense Counci 1. This meting is to stimulate interest in the Civilian Defense work.
