LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION Tom C%rk BMW
The Landmark Preservstion Commission met on October 21 at 7:30 p.m.
at Town Hall. Present were John Stack, William Peters, Ralph Williams
and Joy Bear.
Much of the evenin5 was spent in planning our upcoming publication,
"How Old Is Your House? The contents and the sequence were discussed .
All illustrations will be taken from Southold Town houses .
Basically, the book will contain styles of homes from all periods
beginning with the Medieval and Colonial, through Victorian houses and
up to c . 1900. House facades of all periods will be shown, as well as
such details as windows, doors, moldings, hardware, etc . Ralph
Williams had prepared a list of details which should be covered . It will
be a time-consuming operation to locate appropriate examples, and that
work will begin soon.
When printed, the homes will illustrate the richness and diversity
of Southold Town's architecture, and will also be a guideline to people
wishing to date their own homes .
