HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/20/1987 Cry� �E aN, JAIV ?? ioon LANDMARK COMMISSION Icavn ClerR -S©u0nid The Landmark Preservation Commission held its regular monthly meeting on D cember 20, at 7:30 p .m. at Town Hall. Present were John Stack, �illiam PEters, Ralph Williams and Joy Bear The booklet the commission plans to publish in 1983, tentatively titled "How Old Is Ybur House?", was discussed . Nicholas Langhart, an architectural historian, plams to meet with the commissioners between Christmas and New Year' s to see the format and discuss the text. Ralph Williams plans to go with Peter Stevens, a photographer, to photograph certain houses or archutectural details relevant to the book. He is waiting until the purchase orders come through. The commissioners have spent much time - several 6 or 7 hour days - examining Gary Williams ' small house on Main Rdad, Southold . They have determined that it was probably built in the early 1700' s, and may at one time have been used as a blacksmith shop. They are waiting for the floorboards to be taken up to examine the soil. Before the next regular meeting Bill, Ralph and John will videotape and describe the house, for a permanent record . Then GAry Williams plans to take it down and store it until a suitable site can be found on which to locate it permamently. William Peters has collected information on all the houses between Laurel and Cutchogue that are to be designated as landmarks . The other commissioners have worked with him on areas of this research. He is giving this list to Judy Terry. She will send it to the Board of Assessors, who will attach section, lot and block numbers on the individual houses . These notices then will be sent to owners of the houses . Ralph Williams gave a talk, ''Restoring Old Houses, " to the Miller Place-Mt . Sinai Historical Society on December 14 . Next meeting, January 20, 1988
