HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/26/1986 U APR 0 7 1986 WOO MINUTES SOUTHOLD TOWN LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION March 26, 1986 The meeting came to order at 7:30 p.m. , March 26, 1986. - Dorothy Redden, a visitor, asked to speak about Architectural Review Boards, and the possibility that Southold Town will establish one. Ms. Redden has done extensive research on the subject, and wanted to -enlist the interest and help of the Commission in setting up such a board in Southold Town. The Commission listened with interest but took no action at the time . Bill Peters turned in a list of nominations for houses to be considered as Southold- Landmarks in 1986. John Stack asked other Commission-members to compile -lists of houses in their-areas which-were candidates for Landmark designation. The -lists were the subject of a work session at the home of John Stack, -Grand Avenue, Mattituck, on Friday, April 11. -Joy Bear was asked to bring to the work session the signed forms of owners who have given permission to have their homes designated as landmarks. Commissioners were reminded that these lists of suggested houses have to be presented to the Town Board for their approval. After they are-- - aceepted, registered letters are sent to all owners of- houses on the lists. The letters ask for their signatures on -permission slips if they favor having their houses placed on the Southold Town Landmark list. The question came up as to whether we should add section, lot and block numbers -to each house ,on the Landmark list. After some discussion it was agreed that John Stack would as'--Supervisor Frank Murphy if this could be done by Town employees . John Stack agreed to talk with Bob Long about suggestions on the style and decoration of the certificates . -Bill Peters said Mrs . Peters would be willing to do a limited amount of calligraphy to beautify the certificates. The Commissioners would like to be brought up to date on the progress of our Southold Town-wide inventory of houses by NYSCA, partially funded by NYSCA. Joy Bear was asked to see Jim McMahon for, this report. AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING, APRIL 25. 1. Formalize the list of homes each Commissioner presented at the work session, and prepare the 1986 list for presentation to the Town Board. 2 . Decide what we should do with the evaluations of Southold houses by Commission members, especially Ralph Williams and John Stack. Should-- we bind the records . . . publish them . . .distribute them to libraries, SPLIA, etc? How should this project be financed? - 3 . when - and how - shall we begin wobk on our projected book, "How Old Is -Your House?'f - 4 . Discussion of -the style and wording of certificates to be given to ' o;;wners of Landmark houses. Also there will be a discussion of the style and • ,price of metal markers to be placed on the outside of Landmark homes o NEXT MEETING, FRIDAY, APRIL 25, 3: 00 p.m.
