LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Landmark Minutes
March 16, 1995
1. The meeting started at 7:30. Valerie Marvin and John Page were excused.
2. The February 22, 1995 minutes were reviewed and accepted.
3. The next meeting date is April 27, 1995 at 7:30 PM.
4. Since Bob Bayley has returned from San Diego the Coyle House study will be put on priority..
Everyone was glad to see Bob back and in good health..
5. Chairman Cliff Benfield reviewed the purposes of the Landmark Commission and discussed fu-
ture plans..
6. Cliff suggested a reorganization of responsibilities for the group.
A. Educational programs will be monitored by Bob Kassner.
B. Recommendations to the Register will be overseen by Bob Bailey and Ralph Williams,
this includes providing advisory support for all owners of historic Houses.
C. Publicity will be handled by John Stack.
D. Valerie Marvin will be in charge of legal problems and advice.
E. John Page will handle the minutes.
Cliff made it clear that task leaders will call for help from other members when needed and may
solicit help from outside the commission.
7. The N.Y.S. Historic Preservation Field Service Bureau Questionnaire,was filled out and will be
mailed..
8. The status of the Preservation Awards was discussed. The home of Frank Ianno will be
awarded and Cliff will see about the Cheese Emporium in Greenport. Bob Bayley will see about a
house in Orient. The date of May 30 has been reserved with the Supervisors office.
9. There was a discussion of the need to designate our "mile stones" as landmarks. A plan was
started. A map is to be used to aid this project Bob Bayley is in charge of this project.
10. Bob Bayley enlisted help from the commission for the Transportation Committee identify his-
torical points of interest on their planned bike tours. Ralph will assist Bob with this project.
