The meeting started, at 7:35 p.m. Valerie Marvin was excused. 2. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack to accept the Minutes of March 16, 1995. 3. 'Town ,Support. The commission appreciates the Town's support in securing Joyce Wilkins as secretary. 4. A letter was sent to Mayor David Kapell re: considerations for awards or designation as Township Landmarks, properties located in the Incorporated Village of Greenport. The mayor will get back to the commission. 5. Organization. A letter of resignation was received from John Page, a member of the commission. The secretary will send a letter to the Town Board requesting that Mrs. Terry advertise fora new member of the commission. 6. 1995 Awards Status Report - was given by Bob Bayley and Ralph Williams on the King-Cohen House - Village Lane, Orient. A very positive response from homeowner. Wolf Pit Pond (Ellsworth Tuthill) house - They will receive awards at the May 30th presentation. 7. Bob Bayley gave his report on the Young/Coyle residence in Greenport. Ralph Williams- will handle the recommendation on Milestones. 8. Educational Program Status - Bob Kassner discussed with the commission ways to- inform the people"of-, .Southold regarding landmark preservation. It was suggested that various groups within the Town be contacted and to offer lectures or slide 'presentations. Bob Kassner will handle. 9. Bike Tour - Points of Historical'Interest - Bob Bayley reported that there will be a presentation of these routes bike/trail on Tuesday, May 2nd. 11 -2- 10. Publicity Plans - John Stack - It was suggested that pictures be taken of the Cohen and lanno houses and be given to local newspapers. Also, to contact local radio and.:television stations re: awards presentation. 11 . 1995 Landmark Status Possibilities - can't do anything in Greenport Village until we hear from Mayor Kapell. The commission also discussed the uniqueness of the Cutchogue Diner. 12. New Business - The ".Octagon" structure at the end of Love Lane, Mattituck was discussed. This structure is listed in the National and State Registers of Historic Places !and on the Town of Southold S.P.L. I.A. listing of buildings inventoried and researched by the NYS Division of Historic Preservation. However, according to the Town Code, the Building Department was correct in its decision that there was no need to inform our commission of the Octagon's pending building permits. Members of the commission are planning to contact the owner, as he may not be aware that his structural changes can forfeit his tax advantages. 13.
