June 15, 1995
1 . The meeting started at 7:35 p.m. Bob Bayley was excused.
Present were Cliff Benfield, Ralph Williams, Toni Boyd (new
member) and Bob Kassner.
2. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Bob
Kassner to accept the minutes of the May 23, 1995 meeting.
All were in favor. The next meeting of the Commission is
scheduled for Tuesday, July 11, 1995 at 7:30 p.m.
3. Chairman Benfield announced the Commission had a new member
and introduced Toni Boyd.
4. A critique was made of the presentations made at the May 30, 1995
Town Board meeting. It was agreed all went well and additional
visuals for future presentations should be considered.
5. It was decided to do additional research on the Young/Coyle house
in light of new information by the Gerlin family.
6. Bob Kassner indicated the Commission should review existing present-
ations to develop a comprehensive new program to present to
business and citizen groups, as part of our promotion efforts.
7. There was a discussion of "carrots vs. sticks." It was decided to
research a reduction in assessment, waiver of building permit or
any other financial incentive.
8. Future candidates for landmark status were discussed. Consideration
should be given to the Cutchogue Diner. The life saving station
on the sound, owned by the Raynor family, was also discussed as
a possible acquisition by the Town.
9. Discussion was continued on the subject of a facade easement and
a reduction in taxes, if the property is registered on the National
Register or other landmark lists. Valerie Marvin will be asked to
research this matter.

10. There was a discussion on markers to be placed on historic
structures. Ralph Williams indicated a less• expensive material
is expoxy. A cost comparison will be made by Ralph of the
two materials.
11 . A discussion on this Commission's involvement in the future
development of Fort Corchaug was discussed. It was decided
that efforts should be made to get other organizations to provide
future plans for the site, such as the New Suffolk/Cutchogue
Historical Society or similar groups.
12. A motion was made by Bob Kassner and seconded by Ralph
Williams to adjourn the meeting at 9:15 p.m. All were in favor.
