LANDMARK MINUTES
Southold town Clark
July 11, 1995
1 . The meeting started at 7:30 p.m. Bob Bayley and Valerie Marvin
were excused. Present were: Cliff Benfield, Ralph Williams, Toni
Boyd, John Stack, Bob Kassner and John's daughter Ruthanne.
2. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Toni Boyd to
approve the minutes of the June 15, 1995 meeting. All were in favor.
3. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday,
August 15, 1995 at 7:30 p.m.
4. Young/Coyle - It was suggested that a meeting be set up to inter-
view the Gerlin ladies. This interview will be taped. Cliff will speak
to Eva Sohner and make the arrangements for the meeting.
5. "Carrots" discussion - Cliff will ask Valerie to study, tax incentives
in assessment, facade easement, etc. and provide us with guidelines
to get some of these into effect.
6. Toni Boyd brought in an article from "The Preservation News" re:
tax incentive for homeowners who rehabilitate historic residential
property. The commission will send letters to Senator Daniel Patrick
Moynihan, Senator Alphonse M. D'Amato and Congressman Michael
Forbes requesting their support for this bill HR1662.
7. Future candidates for Landmark Status - Cutchogue Diner, Brecknock
Hall and Fort Corchaug. The commission discussed Brecknock Hall -
the owner has not be encouraging and it is up to the owner to apply
for landmark status.

8. Report on markers - Ralph Williams told the commission that some
of the markers have been painted. Bob Kassner will speak to
Neb Brashich re: protection of marker at Cross Sound Ferry.
9. Cliff Benfield will get a rendering for the mold -for landmark
designations for the next meeting.
10. Educational Report - Bob Kassner said that the summer intern
is working on the S.P.L. I.A. file. Bob also suggested researching
existing programs and consolidate them. John, Ralph and Bob
can work on putting a program together.
11 . A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack
to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
