Scopaz house in Southold. Back portion was original Vail house. Cliff went over and looked at the house. It is a jacked-up Victorian with gingerbread. The front part is 1858 and was attached to the older part. The members of the commission will have to check the inside of the house. Unless it has real history, it wouldn't be a candidate. An application will be given to Valerie Scopaz to submit to the commission. 2. Lupton Benedict house - Main Road, Mattituck. Bob Kassner will check S.P.L. I.A. file. 2- 3. Plum Island Light _ Cliff met with Dr. Carol House. She is Director of Diagnostics at Plum Island and is, interested in 'the restoration of the lighthouse. The Department of Agriculture is responsible for maintaining the lighthouse. Cliff was asked what ideas he had for restoring the light- house. There is puttying to be done as well as some iron work. The outside is in, need of painting. However, there is no money allocated for this. The commission, could take on the responsibility of over- seeing the work, to make sure it is being done according to standards. All agreed this would be a real project for the commission: 8. John Stack and Ralph Williams made a presentation to the Southold/ Peconic Seniors at the ,Recreation Center. The subject was, -"Taking a trip through Southold Town." Films were shown. 9. Milestone #27 is now in Ralph Williams' yard. #27 is the broken one that was alongside John Apelt's house and was knocked over again by the heavy equipment- working on the road. #8 or #9 marker is -also broken into many' pieces. These markers should be replaced by the Town and the old ones preserved, possibly in the local museums. 10. Register of Landmarks -,the intern is finished with the S.P.L. I.A. file. A directory should be made. Bob Kassner will check the files in his office. These files should be organized by geographical location, date it became a landmark, S.P.L. I.A. report and Tax Map Number. 11 . "Carrots",- Valerie Marvin said her -report is the same. After making a few phone calls to other Towns there can't 'be ar lax exemption under the tax law. The commission discussed that maintaining an ol-d house is more costly than a, new one. If there was a paint allowance for registered landmarks, the money would have to be spent first before they would get reimbursed,,,t'iwhi.ch would be a percentage. 12. Ralph Williams made a motion which was seconded by Bob Kassner to adjourn, the meeting at 8:40 p,m. Respectfully submitted )Joyy7cetM..- Wilkins Secretary'
