Box 1179 (516) 765-1801 r Y.- ®� Southold, New York 11971 SOUTHOLD TOWN RECEIVED LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION JAN 2 3 1995 Town Clerk Sodthold LANDMARK MINUTES JANUARY 16, 1996 The meeting started at 7:30 p.m. Present were: Cliff Benfield, John Stack, Ralph Williams, Bob Kassner, Toni Boyd and Bob Bayley. 2. The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 1996 at 7:15 p.m. 3. The Minutes of November 28, 1995 were read and accepted. 4. Marker!'!g,?lVlold - Ralph Williams showed the commission the completed mold for landmark designation. Ralph was complimented for an excellent job. 5. Bob Kassner discussed the project that a summer intern had partially completed. The project consisted of placing tax map numbers on the S.P.-L. I.A. files. Toni Boyd, John Stack and Ralph Williams indicated they would be willing to try and complete assigning tax numbers to the remaining properties. 6. Bob Bayley suggested that the commission recommend to the Town Board that the Cutchogue Diner be put on the Town Register of Historic.;Places. 7. Bob Kassner indicated that Valerie Scopaz will let us know when the commission can examine her house. 8. Cliff Benfield and John Stack recommended that a new form be developed for field inspection notes. The completed form will be attached to the S.P.L. 1'.A. file. John Stack created a sample form to be typed and approved by the commission. i -2- 9. The Trustees for common land in Southold indicated in a letter that they would be willing to donate this land to the Town and requested the commission grant the parcels landmark status. The parcels have to be identified on the towx tax map. Ralph Williams will try to identify the parcels. 10. Plum Island Lighthouse - Cliff Benfield indicated that the government is interested in restoration and landmark status for the lighthouse. The government has to review certain procedures before we get the go-ahead. The commission will not provide any funding for the project but will assist in all other matters. 11 . A visit was nade to the McCarthy house by members of the commission on December 22, 1995. An extensive study was made of the structure and several artifacts were uncovered under the floor, as an ex- cavation for a cellar was taking place. 12. A Fishers Island draft letter was reviewed by the commission. The letter indicated that Fishers Island would like to become more active in placing homes on the register. Ralph Williams indicated the commission had offered its services in the past but met with resistance. Cliff will contact Ferguson to begin the dialog. 13.
