Box 1179 (516) 765-1801 Southold, New York 11971 SOUTHOLD TOWN LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION RECEIVED LANDMARK MINUTES MAR 1 •9 .1996 Town Clerk Southold MARCH 12, 1996 1 . The meeting started at 7:20 p.m. Present were: Cliff Benfield, John Stack, Bob Bayley, Valerie Marvin, Ralph Williams and Toni Boyd. Dr. Carol House, Dr. Jim House and Doug Gregg from Plum Island. 2. A motion was made by Bob Bayley and seconded by Ralph Williams to accept the Minutes of the February 6, 1996 meeting as read. 3. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 1996 at 7:15 p.m. 4. Budget status - There is a total of $4529.00 in the operating budget. Estimated purchases will be less than $1000.00 Cliff discussed the Town of Southold Procurement Policy with the commission. A properly executed purchase order is required for all purchases. Neither goods nor services are to be ordered without first obtaining a purchase order signed by the department head and the Supervisor. 5. Status of revised Inspection and Landmark application forms Each of the members had received copies of the new inspection form. The commission reviewed the application form and an addition wad made to that form. 6. Status of marker manufacture - Ralph stated that everything is on hold, as he is working on another project right now. 7. Copy for Ben Franklin markers and Horton's Point Lighthouse - Toni Boyd hasn't had the time to work on this as yet. 8. Status Reports: Cutchogue Diner - a write-up on this will be done by Toni Boyd. 2 Commoners lots - a write-up will be done on this. Plum Island Lighthouse - Cliff introduced Drs. Carol House,Jim House and Doug Gregg to the commission. They are interested in organizing a group for the preservation of the Plum Island Lighthouse. When created, this organization will be knows as "Friends of Plum Island Lighthouse." Doug Gregg showed pictures of the lighthouse to the members. John Stack had noted that getting on the Southold Town Landmark Registry would be a lot faster than the State or Federal registries. Carol House told the commission that there are certain regulations that must be met, as this property is owned by the U.S Department of Agriculture. At this time you cannot go into the lighthouse, as there is lead and asbestos contamination. Jim House told the commission that if the lighthouse is to be preserved, it is time to get going. Carol House extended an invitation for the commission to come to Plum Island, at which time they will get a tour of the island and get to look at the lighthouse. 9. Critique of Moore House - Bob Bayley has done a report and drawing on this house. Bob questioned the large cellar in the house. Ralph felt there were other houses of that vintage that had large cellars also. Bob also stated that very few chimneys could survive the years and wondered if this chimney was rebuilt as close to the original as possible. 10. Jackson/Booth House - Bob Bayley will do the write-up on this. 11 . Commoners property - It was inspected by the commission and an inspection report will be written. 12. Jules Zebroski House - Toni said there is clearing being done around house. 13. Other Business - Cliff told the members that he had received notice that his term on the commission was up in April. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Bob Bayley for Cliff to remain as chairman of the Landmark Preservation Commission. All were in favor. 14.
