The meeting started at 7:15 p.m. Present were: Cliff Benfield, John Stack, Ralph Williams, Toni Boyd, Bob Bayley and Bob Kassner. Guest: Supervisor Jean Cochran. 2. The Minutes of the March 12, 1996 meeting were read and accepted. 3. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. 4. Supervisor Jean Cochran presented a proclamation to Bob Bayley who is resigning from the commission to move to his home in Montana. All members wished Bob well in his new home and expressed their gratitude for his excellent efforts on behalf of the Town and the commission. Bob's excellent architectural drawings and floor plans of. historic homes are exceptional. 5. By resolution of the Town Board on March 19, 1996, members Ralph Williams, Josephine Boyd, Robert Kassner and Clifford Benfield were reappointed to the commission for a two year term. Cliff Benfield was aiiso, reappointed as chairman of the commission. 6. The status of recruitment for the commission was discussed. Cliff will follow-up with Judy Terry, Town 'Clerk. 7. Ralph Williams,-br.ought to the meeting the first cast of the new historic emblem marker. The design was excellent. Ralph will cast a new marker using a different color and Cliff will explore the possibility of a metal casting. 8. Cliff has not received any feedback from the Town Board on 'the landmark status of the Commoner's lots or the Cutchogue Diner. Cliff will follow up with the Town Board. 9. The Plum Island Lighthouse application was discussed. Cliff will arrange a date for the commission members to visit the lighthouse. A tentative date of April 30, 1996 was agreed upon. -2- 10. Inspection reports were reviewed by Toni Boyd and Bob Bayley. Bob will turn over his material on the John Booth House to Ralph Williams because of Bob's move to Montana. 11 . The May awards were discussed. The next meeting was set early in May in order to review the awards in time for presentations at a May Town Board meeting. 12. A young lady, Ms. Jones, has expressed an interest in becoming a summer intern for the commission. Cliff Benfield will arrange an interview with ,the commission and Ms. Jones. Summer intern projects were reviewed and prioritized. 13. The 1995 EPF Historic Presentation Grant Request was discussed. The issue of the grant for commissions that do not have authority to legally enforce landmark conditions was discussed. Cliff Benfield and Bob Kassner will research this matter in more detail. Previous review of this subject indicated that there was limited community support for legal constraints on historic preservation. 14. Bob Kassner will research bill A-8852 introduced into the New York State Assembly 'for' a property tax incentive for historic rehabilitation. Respectfully submitted oya M. Wilkins Secretary
