LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
DECEMBER 17, 1996
MINUTES
Present were: Cliff Benfield, John Stack, Ralph Williams, Bob Kassner,
Deborah Winsor, Erich Haesche and John Cronin
1 . A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack
to accept the Minutes of the November 19, 1996 meeting as read.
All were in favor.
2. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday,
January 14, 1997 at 7:30 p.m.
3. The members welcomed John Cronin to the commission. The 'commission
is completely staffed.
4. Several hours before the meeting, Cliff received the final copy of
the Landmark Registery. It is 36 pages long. There are two pages
of contents, which is by hamlet.
5. Budget - So far the expense for just the graphics and typesetting of
the Landmark Registery is $2004.00 for 500 copies with some run-over.
There will be no further charges, if we should •go back to print. The
cost will be $6.00 per book.
6. Toni Booth, the historian, has agreed to help with the recommendations
for historic sites as landmarks. John and Ralph will work on a new
application for an historic site or event. There are many historic sites
that could be marked, which would be of interest to the people.

7. Fort Corchaug - Deborah was surprised to see the article written
by Tim Kelly in the Suffolk Times last week. She spoke with
Melissa Spiro regarding the status of the application, which is
deemed complete and will be, put"out.for public comment in January
1997. Deborah will get copies of this report from Melissa, when
it is ready. There is a public comment period of 60 days.
8. 1997 Objectives -
a. Continue to give out awards.
b.- Emphasis on historic sites.
c. Recruiting of applicants with historic landmarks.
d. Explore different incentives. There are precedents
in other communities that could be investigated.
e. Increased publicity - John Cronin will come up with a
plan for publicity for the year.
f. Bob Kassner will write a letter to the libraries offering
the commission's help to those interested in restoring
their historic homes. The commission is available to
give suggestions.
g.. Explore the idea of the" commission giving a lecture or
workshop.
A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack
to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 p.m. All were in favor.
