Members present were: Cliff Benfield, John Page,Ralph Williams, Bob Bayley Bob Kassner and John Stack. Valerie Marvin was required to be in Greenport. 2. The May 24th minutes were-reviewed and accepted. 3. The reworked task list was distributed. Assignments#1, #3, #7 and 98 are completed. Mem- bers were asked to keep their copies handy for easy referal. 4. The presentations at the Town Board meeting, on May 31st were discussed. The positive points were: The Supervisor's role. By coming down to the floor he created a feeling of intimacy and his easy manner put everyone at ease. The use of photographs enhanced the idea of the buildings. Presenting the recipients with signed copies of the Houses of Southold was a magnani- mous gesture that was much appreciated. The negative points were: The readings were too long. The display easel was too small and clumsy. Improvement suggestions: Keep the written descriptions the same and continue them as part of the presentation but read only a precis of the descriptions. Prepare a map of the town, like the planning map, and indicate the Registered Houses with numbered pins. When houses are placed on the Register make the placing of the pin part of the ceremony. This map should remain on display in Town Hall. Continue giving signed copies of The Houses Of Southold. 5. Our next meeting will be held July 19 at 7.30 PM. New Business. John Page briefed the commission on the Brecknock Hall Society's plans for the preserva- tion of Brecknock Hall. The commission is in favor of any plan that would save this building. A letter was authorized to state our position on this matter. A copy is attached to these minutes. It was suggested that we explore the preperation of Medallions for landmark houses as well as preservation award houses. the thought was for an emblem of the town logo that would state Southold Town Landmark Award around the Pound mark. Designs and costs will be ex- plored so that a plan can be submitted before budget time. The investigation of ways to offer tax incentives for landmark houses was placed on the agenda for July. Letters of appreciation were received from Pat and Bill Milford and Frank McIntosh. Frank also placed an ad in the Suffolk Times with a drawing of the "Young's House" done by Reg Webb from an old photo that was most interesting. Respectfully submitted, John A. tack, Chairman
