SOUTHOLD TOWN REME®
LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION OCT 2 8 1991
Meeting Minutes
October, 2 4 19 91. TOYIIi SOutltOld
The meeting started at 7:30 with three members present;
Robert Bayley, Ralph Williams and John Stack. Barbara
Fertig came later, because of car trouble. William Peters
was excused, because of a trip to Texas.
We reviewed our visit to the Historic Preservation office
at Belmont Lake State Park. The interview with Laurie
Hempton, our field representative and John Bonafide, the
program assistant from Albany were our hosts. The
outcomes of the meeting were;
1. Mr. Bonafide will send to us information
regarding the computer program in use at the
Albany office, to see if we can transport data
to our computer at town hall.
2. We will contact the Southold Historical Society
to ask them to set up a committee to prepare a
scrip tthat will present the street-scape of the
museum in a video program to be sent to Mr.
Bonafied, to apply for the state registration.
Ralph Williams presented the final copies of the Old
House inspection report. All were very pleased with his
professional workmanship. I am sure that the board of
governors of the Old House will be pleased with the
report.
A questionnaire from Robert MacKay, director of SPLIA,
was worked on by our commission. The questionnaire was
lengthy and detailed. It's purpose is to survey the
extent and type of regulations governing landmark
commissions and the experience of the commissions in
complying with these regulations. We are promised a copy
of the results.
Ralph and John traveled to Bayport on Saturday Oct, 12,
to present a slide program about Southold to the Bayport
Heritage Association. Both received thank you notes on
cards depicting a street-scape of Bayport c. 1908. Ralph
also presented the program to the Genealogy and History
Section of the Suffolk County Historical Society on
Saturday October 19, 1991. A thank you letter was
received from Richard Baldwin vice president of the
Suffolk County Historical Society.
We have received a request through Bob Bayley to visit a
house owned by Victor Brown, in Orient® Bob will set the
date.
Discussion was held regarding the need for help on the
commission in the field of law, especially real estate
law.
Since we are mainly involved with educating the community
on historical preservation, we need help in getting the
word out. We need a publicist.
In view of these needs we will request the town council
to amend our local law to increase the number of
commissioners from 5 to 7. The chairman has been
requested to so apply.
Because of problems with personal schedules and holidays,
there will be no regular meetings have been scheduled for
November and December. Work sessions; however will be
arranged during these months. The next regularly
scheduled meetings will be Jan. 16 and Feb. 6 1992.
Respectfully submitted.
John A. Stack
