Bob Hefner discussed historic districts with the Commission. He has been involved with historic districts since 1986. The Village of East Hampton has passed a Preservation Law. He explained to the Commission the procedure for historic districts. The property owners had a lot of input in writing the laws for the historic district, that was created. Our inventory needs to be updated. Ralph - suggested that we start in the areas that are interested in becoming an historic district such as in Orient and Oregon Road where interest has been shown. Tom Samuels spoke to the Commission regarding a house at 1710 Skunk Lane in Cutchogue. The owner's name is Suzanne Hooper. She is restoring the back section. He is trying to maintain the architecture of the house. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack that the Commission write a letter to the Building Department giving its endorsement of the restoration. All were in favor. The Commission reviewed the site plans of the 1670 House. It is on the SPLVA list. They have to get a variance, as the size is more than 60 feet. This further destroys the historic nature of a historic building. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack to have John Greene send a letter. All were in favor. Update of Code Committee meeting - The members who attended were en- couraged. Councilman Moore is looking to the Commission for input. -2- Oregon Road - Kathleen Sorrell has done a lot of work. There are 10 or 12 properties that are interested in Oregon Road becoming an historic district. She is trying to get more people interested.
