LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
FRIDAY,APRIL 19,2002 AT 4:00 P.M.
MINUTES
Present were: John Greene, Ralph Williams, John Stack, Herb Adler,Mel Phaff
and Peg Murphy.
John Greene told the Commission that he is resigning from the chairmanship of
the Commission and asked if someone would like to take over the chairmanship.
Herb Adler will take over. The members of the Commission thanked John
Greene for all of his work as chairman.
On Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. there will be a meeting with Jim
Grathwohl on the Whitaker House. Someone from the Commission will attend.
Zanganas House—The Commission reviewed this application and felt that this
house should receive the Southold Town landmark designation. A letter will be
sent to the Town Board with this recommendation.
The Commission discussed the Ferrara House (Merkel Estate) application for
designated landmark. It is a work in progress. It is on the SPLIA list. The first
step would be to have the building plans given to the Commission. Herb will
write a letter to them.

The Commission reviewed the Louise Crandell application(Deacon William
Tuthill House) in East Marion. The Commission will recommend to the Town
Board that this become a Southold Town designated landmark.
The Commission discussed the barn on the Whitaker property. Herb will try to
bring it up at Wednesday's meeting.
Mel Phaff spoke to John Romanelli about the law written by Bill Moore. They
felt that it was rather weak and Mel gave him a copy of the Utica law, which Sag
Harbor has adopted. Mel will contact John Romanelli again.
Peg Murphy felt that John Greene and Herb Adler should again meet with
Supervisor Horton to discuss the Commission with him.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
