LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
MONDAY,DECEMBER 2, 2002 AT 4:00 P.M.
MINUTES
i
The Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
With regard to listing the"Daniel E. Terry House,"the Commission felt it would
be advisable to obtain a record of details of the foundation, such as the type of
saw used, etc. for its permanent records and would like to set up a visit. Herb
Adler will do this.
With respect to the Arena House in East Marion, the plans Were approved with
the request that the replacement windows have full mullions to conform to the
historic style.
Mel Phaff and Ron Rossi will work on the bulletin to assist owners of historic
homes, when they encounter problems with existing building codes.
The proposed awards plan was discussed and it was felt that this program should
encompass the following: 1)restoration of old homes, 2)restoration of
commercial buildings, and 3) the best maintenance of a building. This would be
done on a yearly basis with the public being asked for input. A press release
would be made.
The Planning and Zoning Board meeting which covered a proposed new
Landmarks Preservation Law was discussed. We will be active in our pursuit of a
law that goes beyond the minimum proposed, which relates solely to demolition.
 r
We will act with the Town to promote the desirability of preserving what we have
because this will promote the ambiance of the community and pride of ownership.
We hope to start with a series of monthly articles. The representative of the
Traveler Watchman attending our meeting indicated she would sound out her
people. Her Adler will to talk to the Suffolk Times. We discussed obtaining
speakers from Sag Harbor, which has an effective law and elsewhere.
Josh Horton, who sat with us for a few minutes recommended we set something
up on the Town's website, which we will work on.
Our next meeting is January 13, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. Hereafter,we will try to have
meetings on the second Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m.
In the secretary's absence, the minutes were taken by Herb Adler.
