MINUTES Present were: Herb Adler,Mel Phaff,Ron Rossi, John Stack,Peg Murphy, Joel Reitman, Sal Saporito and Bill Peters. A motion was made by John Stack and seconded by Peg Murphy to approve the Minutes of the last meeting. All were in favor. Herb showed the members the plans for the Marone residence(Cocktail Cottage at 3500 Pine Neck Road, Southold. He wants to put on an addition of a breakfast nook. The Commission reviewed the plans with the recommendation that the windows to be installed match the existing windows. The Commission reviewed the plans for the Garabrant residence at 9625 Main Road, East Marion. They want to put an addition in the back to include a bathroom. The Commission approved the addition, as long as the new windows match the existing and historic structure. Superivor Horton spoke to the Commission about putting info re: the Landmark Preservation Commission on the website. Also, pictures of landmark houses. The Commission reviewed the Smith residence at 1725 Village Lane, Orient. The Commission recommends that the new windows on the rear section of the house all match the existing windows. However, the Commission is concerned about the addition of the porch on the north side of the house. The Commission will ask the owners to rethink this. The Commission feels that considering its location and visibility, the porch does not belong in the place for which it is being proposed and might be considered unsuitable for the neighborhood. John Stack asked Bill Peters to come to the meeting. They are going to do a repair on the "Old House"in Cutchogue. It is a complete restoration: a new roof and chimney, clapboard and windows. The Commission approved the restoration. Ron and Mel are working on a brochure to help the buyer or owner of an historic house. Ron showed the Commission a brochure put out by Greenport, "A Guide to Historic Preservation." The Commission felt that brochures should be given to real estate offices, chamber of commerces, bed and breakfasts and motels. John Stack suggested putting the info on the internet. It was also suggested that an article should be put in the newspaper to explain what the purpose of the Landmark Preservation Commission is. Herb will work on this. With no further business to be conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m. The next meeting of the Landmark Preservation Commission is scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2003. Respectfully submitted, 1I,- . oyce M. Wilkins Secretary
