LANDMARK PRESERVATION'COMMISSION
MEETING - MARCH 25, 1998
MINUTES
Present were: John Greene, Ralph Williams, John Stack, John
'Cronin., Herb Adler and, Bill Guyton
The commission welcomed the new member, Herb Adler.
Since Deborah Winsor has resigned as chairman of the commission,
a motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack
to recommend to the Town Board- that the commission would like
John Greene to be its chairman. ,:All were 'in favor.
James House and Cosden District - A motion was made by Ralph
Williams and seconded by John Stack to accept the write-ups on
both the James House and the Cosden Historic District. All were
in favor.
John Asip application - the commission visited this house. John Stack
said it is a vernacular farmhouse for the time. It is, unique as it
started out small and additions kept being added. The building
evolved with the farm's success. John Greene will call Mr. Asip and
tell him that the commission would like a little more history. Also,
John will ask him to work on a draft write-up on the house.
Mattituck Presbyterian Church Renovation - the commission reviewed
the plans. John Cronin felt that more details should be given in
the plans.
Education Program - John Stack and Ralph Williams are putting -together
the information for this course. There will be four classes and two
tours of historic houses.

Mattituck Cellular Tower - Bill Guyton spoke to the commission re:
the Mattituck Cellular Tower. Ralph spoke to Gerry Goehringer,
Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, who wants a written
statement from the commission as to what stand the Landmark
Preservation Commission wants to take and what information the
commision has to substantiate that stand. A motion was made by
Herb Adler and seconded by John Cronin to have John Greene
write a letter to the ZBA.
The commission discussed raising public awareness of Landmark
pros, possibly a new approach. It was also suggested that the
commission review the Landmark Preservation Law.
The next meeting of the Landmark Preservation Commission is
scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 1998 at 7:30 p.m.
With no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned
at 9:30 p.m.
