Box 1179 Telephone 4 • Southold, New York 11971 (516)765-1801 SOUTHOLD TOWN LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION LANDMARK PRESERVATION' COMMISSION MEETING - FEBRUARY 11 , 1997 MINUTES Present were: Cliff Benfield, Erich Haesche, -John Stack, John Cronin and Bob Kassner. 1 . A motion was made by John Stack and seconded by Erich Haesche to accept the Minutes of the January 13,'•1997 meeting. All were in favor. 2. The next meeting of the Landmark Preservation Commission is sched- uled for Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. 3. Budget Revision - There was only $150.00 left over from 1996. The - bill for the Landmark Registery will come from the 1997 budget. 4. Landmark Registery Critique - Most comments regarding the registery have been favorable. There are a few corrections to be made. As per the Town Board, the price of the registery will be $8.00 plus tax. The price to book stores and museums who purchase 10 books or more- will ore-will be $6.00 per copy plus tax, if applicable. Letters will be 'sent out to the historical societies and museums giving them this inform- ation after the Town Board approves the prices of the registery at the next Town Board meeting. John Cronin put an article regarding the Landmark Registery in last week's Suffolk Times. Cliff spoke to Mr. Bleyer of Newsday and he will give',this a Sunday column in the near future. John Stack suggested putting a house from the registery in the Suffolk Times each week. Cliff said perhaps John Cronin could contact Mike Hegeman at Academy Printing to put Landmark houses in the Peconic Bay Shopper. -2- 5. Incentive Plans for Restoration and Maintenance - No report at this time. Eric will contact Deborah'about this. 6. Cliff attended a seminar put on by Bridgehampton Bank regarding the advantages of installment land buying. John Cushman, Alice Hussie, Laury Dowd and Jim McMahon were also in attendance. Bridgehampton Bank would do the financing. This pertains mostly to open space. It wasn't extended to historic buildings and land. 7. Historic Site Project - Toni Booth will be given copies of the new application for sites and structures. 8. a. The Grathwohl letter - John Stack will give Bill Peters the information on this. b. The Commission received a thank you note from Barbara Jones for the copy she received of the Landmark Registery. 9. Signage - The Commission has gotten 3 or 4 letters from people who would like signs for their landmark houses. John Stack suggested that the people interested in the signs should submit a copy to the commission and then we could go over it. 10. Since there was no further business to be discussed, a motion was made by John Stack and seconded by Erich Haesche to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 p.m. All were in favor.
