Box 1179 Telephone Southold, New York 11971 (516) 765-1801 S6 SOUTHOLD TOWN LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING - TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 1997 MINUTES Present were: John Stack, Erich Haesche, Ralph Williams, John Greene, Deborah Winsor and Bob Kassner The commission welcomed John Greene, the new member of the committee. John asked if each member could introduce themselves and give a little bit of their background, which they did. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Deborah Winsor to accept the minutes of the April 8, 1997 meeting. All were in favor. The next meeting of the Landmark Preservation Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack to nominate Deborah Winsor as chairperson of the Landmark Preservation Commission. Deborah agreed to accept the nomination and all were in favor. Therefore; the Landmark Preservation Commission would like to recommend to the Town Board that Deborah Winsor be appointed as chairperson of the commission. Lester/Storrs House - John Stack read the definition of a landmark from Chapter 56 of the code to the commission. Landmark - Any place, site, structure or building which has historical value or aesthetic interest by reason of its antiquity or uniqueness of architectural design or as part of the development, heritage or cultural characteristics of the town, county or nation. This house definitely has historical value. Ralph -2- suggested contacting the owners and have them resubmit further information. John Stack will make an appointment to inspect this house on Wednesday, June 18, 1997. The commission received a letter from the National Alliance of Preservation Commission re: extending the historic rehabilitation tax credit to home- owners. Deb will send a letter to them in support of the bill. Old Business: Fort Corchaug - Bob Kassner stated it is a done deal. the contracts have been signed. Erich spoke to the owner of the Cleaves-Kuester House in Laurel regarding the signage for her house. Erich will check on obtaining frames for the signage. The commission would like to thank Ralph for a fine job in representing the Landmark Preservation Commission on a recent televised talk show with Supervisor Jean Cochran. With no further business to be conducted, a motion was made by Bob Kassner and seconded by John Stack to adjourn the meeting at 9:15 p.m. Respectfully submitted, )oycle M. Wilkins Secretary
