LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION
LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
TUESDAY, JULY 8, 1997
MINUTES
Present were: Deborah Winsor, Ralph Williams., John Greene, Erich
Haesche, John Stack, Bob Kassner and John Cronin.
1 . A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Bob Kassner
to accept the Minutes of the June 10, 1997 meeting. All were in
favor.
2. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday,
August 19, 1997 at 7:30 p.m.
3. Visit to the Lester/Storr's House. There was a very early house
but it didn't look like the house looks now. As the families changed,
pieces were added and extensions made. It has quite a history.
Ralph suggested that Mr. Wall and Ms. Shea be contacted to thank
them for the visit. Also, they should bring us more information
before we take action to make this a landmark registered house.
John Greene will call them. Ralph suggested we contact the school
to see how a project could be set up for a history class to do the
background study on this house. Deborah will make that follow-up.
4. Signage - Erich called a few places, the minimum cost in bronze
would be $100.00. The cost in cast aluminum is $45.00. It would
be a five line sign and we would have to promise them 50 signs.
Erich will contact them for the cost of more than five lines.

5. Architectural Review Board - Deborah said she could no longer
be the Landmark Preservation Commission's representative to the
Architectural Review Board. A motion was made by Ralph Williams
and seconded by Bob Kassner to recommend to the Town Board
that John Greene be appointed to the Architectural Review Board
replacing Deborah Winsor. All were in favor.
6. Transportation Committee - Scenic Highway - Deborah had called
Neb Brashich and told him that Ralph had a video of the scenic
highway. Deborah will write a letter to Neb.
7. Old Business - Fort Corchaug - Deborah, Bob and John Greene
attended the receiption on Fort Corchaug. Deborah has a tentative
meeting scheduled with Jean Cochran to discuss new projects for the
commission and she will also discuss Fort Corchaug.
8. New Business - John Cronin spoke to Ken Reeves, Director of the
Town's Recreation Department about putting together a lecture
series on landmark preservation with the adult education classes.
John Stack suggested letting the people know what the objectives are of
landmark preservation and encourage them to develop pride in the Town.
John Greene suggested a house tour. Ralph said perhaps after the
people take the course, then take them to several landmark houses.
John Cronin will contact Ken Reeves.
Ralph suggested we take on the responsibility of the milestones.
Some of the milestones do not look good. One milestone is missing
#27. It should be replaced with a new one and there should be some
marking that it was a replacement. Ralph felt the Town should main-
tain them and come up with a scope of work with the Highway Depart-
ment. Maintenance issues and repairs should be discussed with the
Town. Ralph, Deborah and Erich will take an inventory of the condition
of the milestones.
9. New Business - Laury Dowd, Town Attorney is asking for recommend-
ations from the commission as to how far from an historic site or a
historic building corridor for locating a cellular tower. The Department
of Interior has criteria for this. Deborah will call and get this
information. Deborah will also contact the National Trust.
A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Bob Kassner
to adjourn the meeting at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted
Joyce M. Wilkins
