HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/16/2006 Southold Town Historic Preservation Commission May 16, 2006 Meeting Minutes Date: May 16, 2006 Time: 3:00 PM Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Southold, NY Attendees: Jim Grathwohl, Jamie Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Peggy Murphy, Mel Phaff, Ron Rossi and Barbara Schnitzler. Scott Russell attended as Town Board Liaison and Keiran Corcoran (Asst. Town Attorney) and Damon Rallis (Building Dept.) were invited guests. Daniel and Prudence Heston were invited to present a briefing on their proposed application during the later por- tion of the meeting. The April minutes were approved. Jim mentioned that the new commissioner appointments were approved and a press release was sent to the Suffolk Times. Additionally Jim said that the Suffolk Times would run "Infomercials" similar to those by the Town Trustees for a rate of$298 per installment for 13 installments. It was agreed that this should be considered and a series of"Infomercials" written. Lary said the sub-committee was in the review stage on the Review Process and hopes to have a final draft at the June meeting. He again requested all members to submit comments to him. Jim gave a quick rundown on the Heston application and anticipates that a public hearing would be scheduled Wednesday, May 31, 2006. He prepared a notice to be published in the next edition of the Suffolk Times (5/18/06.) Daniel and Prudence Heston arrived and then gave an overview on their ap- plication stating that the work in progress was actually a restoration rather then new or revised construction. They were given information on the public hearing process as well as copies of the materials required for notifying neighbors and interested public on their application. They will not be allowed to continue with any further construction until'after they receive a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Commission and a permit from the Building Dept. Barbara gave an overview on concerns for the old Holland Submarine site in New Suffolk and what steps can be considered to preserve the historic nature of the site. The next meeting is scheduled for 3 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.
