August 15, 2006 Meeting Minutes
Date: August 15, 2006
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Southold, NY
Attendees: Jim Grathwohl, Jamie Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Ron Rossi and
Barbara Schnitzler. Damon Rallis (Building Dept.) attended as the LPC Ad-
ministrative Assistant.
The July minutes were approved.
Jim reported on the annual Southold Town meeting held on Fishers Island
and stated there is some interest among Fishers Island residents in obtaining
landmark status for some locations and also a possible Historical District for
the Fort Wright complex.
The Town Board approved the LPC request to provide a yearly stipend for
Damon Rallis to serve as an Administrative Assistant for the LPC.
The Suffolk Times will be having an article regarding the Landmarked But-
tonwood Tree in Orient and will be contacting Barbara for additional informa-
tion regarding the application process.
Ron briefly reported on the status of Gary Laube's request to have the Ackerly
Pond area designated as a historical district. It may be easier to extend the
Southold Historical District boundary to include the Ackerly Pond area. How-
ever they will need the support of the LPC. Ron will try to make arrange-
ments Virginia Bartos and/or Gary Laube to attend the next meeting to dis-
cuss the idea with the commission.
Jim said that Mel gave advice on siding as part of a request for technical as-
sistance with residing the Price house on Main Street.
Larry handed out copies of the final Review Process brochure and the com-
mission agreed on the format and paper stock. Larry will have Michelle order
the paper and John Sepnoski will run off the copies.
Larry will add a comment on the Administrative Permit list to include recom-
mendations by either the State or Federal Governmental Landmark agency to
be handled by an Administrative Permit. He will also work with Damon to up-
date the Application form as necessary.
Jim asked Larry to develop a "Benefits" brochure based upon Jim's previous
flyers.
Damon advised the commission that the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library
application and will schedule a site visit with the LPC, architect and library
personnel prior to the September meeting.
Jim briefly discussed a draft 2007 budget.
The Stanton's have an application for demolition-.df the Horton/Latson°house
on Town.Creek before.the Town Trustees. Although this house is not a -
Landmarked building, the LPC-will send the-Trustees a letter requesting that .
the application be rejected based upon historical value.
The next meeting is scheduled for 3 PM on Tuesday, September-19,, 2006.
