the Southold Historical District.
The August minutes were approved.
Jim stated that he was going to Fishers Island on Saturday; Sept. 23 to dis-
cuss Landmark Preservation with various residents and a possible Historical
District for the Fort Wright complex. He invited the other commissioners to
join him.
Jim reported on a symposium on landmark preservation at Southampton Col-
lege.
Gary Laube and Mel reported on the status of Gary Laube's request to have
the Ackerly Pond area designated as a historical district or extending the
Southold Historical District boundary to include the Ackerly Pond area. Gary
was requested to obtain information regarding the various structures located
in the area and also canvassed support from the neighbors. Once this is ob-
tained, the LPC can decide on how best to support the effort and which ap-
proach is the best direction.
Jim provided a draft copy of the first of the "Preservation Perspectives"for
publication in the Suffolk Times. He received various comments and will re-
vise the draft as necessary.
A review of the letter to be mailed to the present land marked owners was
made with a few minor changes. This will be sent out along with brochures
on the Landmark Process as soon as the register of owners is finalized.
Lary handed out draft copies of the "Celebrating the Past" brochure and after
making a,few minor revisions will contact Academy Printing for information on
the costs of printing them.

A letter was sent to the Board of Trustees from the LPC requesting that the
Stanton House on Town Creek Drive is a historical structure and considera-
tion to maintain its historic presence be considered in lieu of tearing it down.
The application before the Trustees was put off to a later date (however, it is
again on the Trustees agenda for September.)
Damon mentioned that he had received a request to relocate a barn on land
marked property in Orient. Jamie is familiar with the property and will obtain
additional information and drawings before proceeding.
A site visit regarding the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library application was
made on September 18 and outcome of the meeting was discussed with the
full commission. It was decided that Barbara (as lead person) will develop a
letter containing the LPC's concerns and sent it on to the architect. The con-
cerns are mainly the lack of final drawings, the location of an egress from the
basement, the placement of the foundation rocks and the new dormer over
the entranceway.
Jim briefly discussed a draft 2007 budget.
The next meeting is scheduled for 3 PM on Tuesday, October 17, 2006.
