Scott Russell attended as Town Liaison and Damon Rallis (Building Dept.) attended as the LPC Administrative Assistant. This was an informational meeting for Southold Town residents to give an overall of the Town Landmark Preservation Law and how it affects Southold Town Landmark owners and residents. Approximately 50 people attended the meeting of which some were owners of landmarks as well as others who want to have their property landmarked as well as interested others. All own- ers of Southold Landmarked properties had recently received a letter inviting them to this meeting along with other information on the Landmark process. Jim briefly reported on how and when (Nov. 2004) the law was enacted and the some of the reasons for the enactment. Scott further emphasized the need for Landmark Preservation as a way to preserve the history of the Town of Southold and its heritage. Jim gave a power point presentation which explained the Landmark process - -what can be (and in some cases, what was) done to preserve a structure or to make an adaptive reuse of a landmark structure. He also showed some of the "lost" landmarks as well as the need to preserve what we presently have and want our future generations to continue to have. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session, in which some owners pre- sented some reasons why they thought they should not be on the Town list or for certain modifications(these were asked to present their petitions at a future LPC meeting so each case could be handled on an individual basis.) Others wanted more information on how to have their property landmarked or for cla- rification on the landmark process. Some residents thought they presently should be on the list as they had documentation stating their property was landmarked, but did not receive the mailing. Damon will be following up with them. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Town Hall.
