III. Chairman's Comments
A. Purchase/Preservation of New Suffolk Shipyard/Holland Submarine site in New Suffolk
will be completed by Dec. 20, pending environmental surveys.We have offered to assist
in obtaining designation as National Historic Site. (Barbara to coordinate as member of
the New Suffolk Waterfront Committee.) Letter sent to Town Board indicating our support
of this important preservation effort.
B. State Office of Historic Preservation workshop on Nov.2e in Cold Spring Harbor to
discuss and get input on NYS Historic Preservation Plan for 2007 to 2011. 1 will attend;
others welcome.
IV. Old Business
A. Continued feedback and follow-up from January 25 informational meeting:
Redraft of letter and process to advise those requesting"de-landmarking"from Orient
National Historic District. Kieran feels his recommended wording in revised letter
(attached)is appropriate and needs no further explanation. Decide on process/date to
send individualized letters.
B. Progress on Fishers Island Historic District application—Barbara Schnitzler/Jim
Grathwohl
C Review draft of Historic Preservation Commission Handbook. Discuss production and
distribution (Architects, builders, libraries, etc.) -Barbara Schnitzler/Jim Grathwohl
D. Follow-up,on new source and estimates for plaques—Mel Pfaff
E.Approved 2008 budget(TBD); Discuss FY2007 accomplishments, new projects for
2008, i.e. awards program, lectures,speaker's bureau, road side markers, etc
F. Progress on web site
G. Historic Property Tax Exemption Letter and Town Board Presentation on Oct.23;
Presentation/hearing to Town Board on Dec. 18 (see Larry's e-mail); Discuss letter to
school districts—Larry Jungblut
V. New Business
A. New Historic Districts in East Marion and New Suffolk requested in stakeholders'
meetings; meeting with East Marion reps on Nov.26 at 1 p.m. at Peconic Landing; Need
current roster of East Marion landmarks for this meeting (Damon)—Larry Jungblut/Jim
Grathwohl
B. Kieran Corcoran's Request for Advice on Monopole at Cedar Beach (See Larry
Jungblut's e-mail)
C. Review/Discuss today's consultations—Damon Rallis
