HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/19/2006 i Southold Town Landmarks Preservation Commission December 19, 2006 Meeting Minutes Date: December 19, 2006 Time: 3:00 PM Location: Conference Room, Town Hall Southold, NY Attendees: Jim Grathwohl, Jamie_Garretson, Larry Jungblut, Mel Phaff, Ron Rossi and Barbara Schnitzler. Damon Rallis (Building Dept.) attended as the LPC Administrative Assistant. The November minutes were approved. Jim reported on several requests for information that he received. One re- gards Althea Travis request for information forming a historic district Laurel. Jim will be contacting Virginia Bartos on this matter. The other one con- cemed the new site of the Cutchogue Fire Department on the SW comer of Rte. 48 and Cox Lane. There is an old barn on the property and the Fire Dept. would like to move it to preserve it. Jim mentioned that the Peconic Land Trust recently obtained the rights on the adjacent property so some resolution may be considered. Jim said the status of the LOC 2007 budget is still unknown and hopes to have the accepted budget shortly. He also mentioned that the Town Board accepted the Ll North Shore Heritage Area Management Plan and this needs to be further researched for any impact on the LPC. . The letters to owners of landmarked properties advising them of the Law, along with certificates and brochures is expected to be sent on or about Jan. 10, 2007. The informational meeting is scheduled to be held in Town Hall on Jan. 25. A pre-meeting dinner will take place at Founders Tavern, Southold on Jan. 25 at 5 PM to finalize any concerns and set the agenda which will in- clude at minimum,-a Welcome, Introduction of the Commissioners, Mission, Overview, PowerPoint Presentation and a Q &A session. Larry said that the new benefits brochure is in the hands of Academy Printing and should be available in the near future. A second infomercial is scheduled for the Jan. 18 edition of the Suffolk Times along with a press release promoting landmarks preservation and the Jan. 25 meeting. Jim requested that all commissioners' comment on the proposed release so it can be finalized for Jan. 18 publication. Jamie discussed a few special situation/challenges regarding Orient residents and the Landmarks law. Mel Phaff was unanimously elected to fill Peg Murphy's position of Vice Chairman. Mel also asked for the commission's support of a request to preserve the old Mattituck School. The commission would provide any support they can,-al- though they cannot provide any direct financial support. Likewise, the commission can provide necessary support for Poquatuck Hall in Orient, but cannot provide financial assistance. Jim stated he would send a memo to-Scott Russell and the Town Board rec- ommending a Heritage and Environmental Education Center at the-new.Lau-7 rel Lake Preserve. Damon mentioned that the Planning Board will soon be considering the appli- cation for the.Albertson House on the Main Road in Southold. It was decided that a letter would be sent to Jeri Woodhouse and the Planning-outlining the Commission's concerns, although the house is not-landmarked. The next meeting is scheduled for 5 PM on Tuesday, January 25, 2007 at the Founders Tavern.-- -
