Letter of Transmittal for LPC Handbook
(On LPC letterhead)
Date: September 30, 2008
TO: Supervisor Scott Russell
FROM: Landmarks Preservation Commission
SUBJECT: New Handbook
Attached is the new Handbook written and produced by the Landmarks
Preservation Commission to assist the owners of registered Town landmarks,
builders, architects and other building trades to interpret the Town's Landmark
Preservation Code. It is the policy and procedures manual used by the
Commission. The Code, implemented by the Town Board and interpreted by the
Commission, covers proposed exterior alterations, moving and demolition of
local registered landmarks. It provides the mechanism by which the community
achieves its preservation goals.
The Handbook has been reviewed by the Town Building Department,
Planning Department, Council members, Town Attorney and others. It will be
distributed to local libraries, builders and architects, and is on the Town's web
site. Familiarity with this Handbook will assist in moving a project quickly through
the approval process, saving applicants both time and money.
The Commissioners and I appreciate your support and that of the Town
Board on this important project that will help maintain the unique architectural
heritage of Southold Town.
James F. Grathwohl
Chairman.
