To,VIl of Southold
Office of Building Inspector
Town Clerk's Office
Southold, New York
Attention: Mr. Howard Terry, Building Inspector
Dear Mr. Terry:
I received your letter dated April 19, 1972, and, of course,
was disappointed to hear of the restrictions now confronting us.
On October 26, 1966, we contacted you regarding a permit to
build a swimming pool. We were advised at that time that no per-
mit was necessary for an in-ground pool. Having been given a
letter from the Green Acres Association at Orient, New York, stating
that a pool and fence could be constructed within the covenants and
restrictions of the Green Acres Association (now Petty's Bight
Association, Inc.), we proceeded. vIe ,,)ere una,~are of the variance
restrictions.
We respectfully request that the Board consider the facts
that the pool is acceptable in the neighborhood, has been pro-
fessionally landscaped, and in no way has it created a nuisance
by its location. This, plus the fact, that a neighbor has re-
ceived a variance for his pool in a similar location, we believe
should add credence to a favorable decision.
I am enclosing two copies of our appeal along with my check
for $15.00 to cover the fee. Mrs. Houghton and I appreciate any
effort to clear up this matter so we may proceed with our plans
for the sale of the house.
