CORWIN January 26, 1972 SAMUEL J. GLICKMAN Board of Appeals Town of Southold Southold, New York 11971 Gentlemen: On your January 27th calendar, scheduled for 8:15 p.m. is an application for the variance of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hawkins. I shall be unable to attend the meeting since I will be out of town for several days; Mrs. Hawkins is incapacitated and Mr. Hawkins does not make :it a practice to drive at night. Quite evidently no one will appear in support of the application. I am not asking for an adjournment since I realize that it sometimes creates a hardship for those who might be disposed to attend the hearing for the opposition. I believe the diagrams and sketches which are attached to the application are in sufficient detail so that there is really no need to appear in support of the application. The applicant has no objection to taking any variance the Board might be disposed to grant subject to specific minimum setbacks on all four sides. The home these people expect to erect is for their retirement. Mrs. Hawkins has a limitation that makes it difficult for her to negotiate steps and they plan to build a house so that there will be none. For the same reason they would like one walk to be as close to the Main Road as possible to obviate the necessity of excessive snow removal in the winter time. Since we have the property under contract of sale subject to obtaining a variance We are anxious for an early determination of the Board. If, however, there are any questions that would make it useful for me or Mr. Hawkins to appear, We would appreciate an adjournment for that purpose and would be glad to meet with on he occasion next meeting. Very truly '-'~^---' Stanley SSC:sd ':-_~~"..~':;,;-""'-'" .. '"'W''' ^'''''~'^'''''''~'<''~''''''''''_._,,",_.",,<,'~''''.. .'"
