WINTER 2019 BROCHURES:
th
The brochure was an insert in the November 15 edition of the Suffolk Times. I delivered it
throughout the town to local delis, grocery stores and libraries. In addition, the programs are posted
on the Towns website and on the Recreation Departments Facebook page.
Despite months of preparation for the transition to the NEW mobile friendly website, the company
overseeing the site failed to implement some of the changes. This caused a significant, but brief
setback on the opening day of registration. Since making the changes, the new site has been very
user friendly for both the community members and for Recreation Department staff using the system.
Special thanks to Lloyd Reisenberg and the IT Dept for assisting with this transition.
WINTER PROGRAMS:
In addition to the classes listed in the printed brochure, a new program has been added to our winter
schedule. Through a partnership with Southold School, we have been able to secure indoor space
for a new Adult Basketball Open Gym Program. The program is scheduled to begin in January for
residents 18 years of age and older.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
On November 3rd I attended the Southold Schools Wellness Fair and 5K. Further efforts will be
made to attend similar fairs to help increase community awareness of Recreation Department
programming.
SUMMER 2019 SEASONAL STAFF:
The Recreation Department will be offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course
this winter. The dates have been confirmed with Peconic Landing and will be promoted through
social media, email blasts and distribution of fliers to local schools, other Towns, park districts and the
village. In addition, I have also reached out to the local schools to explore opportunities to promote
these courses during the school day.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT DEPOSITS & EXPENDITURES: Following are copies of our monthly
bank statement. Please note that any withdrawals on the bank statement are program refunds for
those participants who paid with a credit card.
Sincerely,
Janet Douglass
Recreation Supervisor
