I was presented with detailed information prepared by Element Energy Systems identifying the specific on-site conditions of the existing structure in question, including rafter size and spacing. Design drawings for the proposed solar system created by Element Energy Systems include a cover sheet, site plan, roof details, structural layouts, solar module mounting details, and 3-line diagrams. Based on the provided documentation, I have evaluated the structural capacity of the existing structure to accommodate the installation of the proposed 15,925 KW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System comprised of four arrays of solar modules. The following table taken from the drawing set includes some of the pertinent information: ITEM DESCRIPTION ARRAY#1 ARRAY#2 ARRAY#3 ARRAY#4 R Rafter 2x10 d-fir 16"o.c. 2x6 d-fir 16"o.c. 2x6 d-fir 16"o.c. 2x6 d-fir 16"o.c. The design wind speed is taken to be 3 second gusts at 130 mph and the ground snow load is taken to be 20 psf as per the International Residential Code at the project location. Design specifications of the proposed equipment as taken from the drawing set: ITEM ARRAY#1 ARRAY#2 ARRAY#3 ARRAY#4 Total Array Weight 876.3 Ibs 354.2 Ibs 777.4 Ibs 393 Ibs Total ArraV Area 326.5 sq ft 126.98 sq ft 290.2 sq ft 145.12 sq ft ArraV Dead Load 2.7 psf 2.8 psf 2.7 psf 2.7 psf Brian Klug , P. The structural analysis, utilizing the above design loads and information provided about the project site, indicates that the addition of the proposed solar arrays to this existing structure will be adequately supported by the existing structural members, provided that the installation is performed in accordance with the design drawings, utilizing industry accepted construction practices, and in accordance with all applicable building codes. Based on the described evaluation, it is my professional opinion that the roof systems involved will adequately support the proposed solar arrays as described in the design drawings. This evaluation is in conformance with the following: 2015 International Residential Code and NYS 2016 Supplement ASCE 7-16: Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures 2001 Wood Frame Construction Manual Documentation and Data provided by Element Energy Systems Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
