GENERAL
• Incoming Waste Stream of 36,391 tons,up 13%from 1999.
• Recycling hit at a new high of almost 18,000 tons,up 19%increase over`99, due mostly to increased
production of mulch and wood chips from yard waste

of recyclables,grants,etc.)

• Household Rec cly ables (i.e.,cans,galss,newspaper,etc.)comprise the rest of the recycling stream,a
little over 5,000 tons: This is basically unchanged since the mid-`90s,meaning that residential
recycling has leveled off,despite an increase in population and waste produced;
• Recyclinj's Financial Bene its nonetheless are impressive,saving a total of approx. $350,000 in
avoided disposal fees since 1991,in addition to the income it has generated.

• Produced over 13,000 yards of leaf mulch for use in the landfill cap topsoil layer, a savings of approx.
$80,000 if the material had to be imported
• Over 5,000 residents took advantage of the"500 lbs. free"program,making over 2,000 trips over the
scale.
