Upon receipt of an application for a Pre-existing Certificate
of Occupancy, I made an inspection of this one-story, wood-framed
dwelling. I was admitted to building by Mr. Schwerdt who accom-
panied me on this inspection which began at approximately 11:15 A.M.
The building is a wood-framed structure and has no central
heating system. It is a shell only, and is constructed on cement
block piers. This unit consists of two bedrooms, a kitchen,
living room, and a toilet room containing a lavatory. The living
room contains a fireplace, and from this room there is a ladder
type stairway to the second floor storage area above the bedrooms
which is non-habitable. A screened porch is located on the west
side of the building with a passage door to the living room.
The following violations of the Housing Code, Chapter 52,
Town of Southold, New York, were found:
Fireplace - in living room, wood trim surrounding the
opening is too close the opening and is discolored from the heat.
The construction of the fireplace itself is poured concrete and
there is evidence within the fireplace of disintegration of con-
crete due to excessive heat. The fireplace is not lined with
the proper clay-brick suitable for this purpose. The hearth even
with the floor level is of insufficient depth, Article IV, Section
52-41 A, B, C.
Toilet room - no tub or shower. The building has an exterior
shower which does not comply with the regulations of the Housing
Code, Article V, Section 52-51 D (2c). A gas-fired, hot water heater
is located in this toilet room and there is no shut off valve at
unit, Article V, Section 52-52 B (2).
Rear entry - no means of controlling light in room on entry,
Article V, Section 52-56 B (2).
Kitchen - gas cooking range, no shut off valve at unit,
Article V, Section 52-52 B (2).
Heat - There is no central heating system in the building
and its occupancy would be on a seasonal basis, Article V,
Section 52-53 A (1).

There are no accessory structures or fences on the premises.

Instructions
A. This application must be filled in typewriter OR ink, and submitted in DUPLICATE to the Building
Inspector with the following; for new buildings or new use:
1. Final survey of property with accurate location of oil buildings, property lines, streets, and
unusual natural or topographic features.
2. Final approval of Health Dept. of water supply and sewerage disposal--(S-9 form or equal).
3. Approval of electrical installation from Board of Fire Underwriters.
4. Commercial buildings, Industrial buildings, Multiple Residences and similar buildings and
installations, a certificate of Code compliance from the Architect or Engineer responsible for
the building.
5. Submit Planning Board approval of completed site plan requirements where applicable.
B. For existing buildings (prior to April t957), Non-conforming uses, or buildings and "pre-existing"
land uses:
1. Accurate survey.of property showing all property lines, streets, buildings and unusual natural
or topographic features.
2. Sworn statement of owner or previous owner as to use, occupancy and condition of buildings.
3. Date of any housing code or safety inspection of buildings or premises, or other pertinent in-
formation required to prepare a certificate.
