To Whom it May Concern:
I am writing to you today because over the years, the Old School House Park has been a community
asset with a place to play baseball, tennis, soccer and basketball, however for the neighbors of the park,
it is more of a nightmare. On a regular basis there are adults playing basketball and tennis with no
consideration for those around them. The-cursing from the attendees is appalling to adults, not to
mention alarming if small children are simultaneously enjoying the park as well. neighboring homes are
subjected to unruly, unclean and uncourteous visits as commonplace. This park is in a bedroom
community. We have called the police on several occasions over the last few years with no real action
taken. One day while playing tennis a woman had a dog tied to the fence the poor thing barked and
barked, finally my neighbor called the police and the woman took the dog home.
On 7/2/2018 the town hired a company to sealcoat the tennis court, at 6:30am the workers started with
a leaf blower to clear the debris, I understand that it was going to be a hot day but the "TOWN" has an
ordinance in place that states no work begins before 7:OOam. Now how are rules to be enforced if the
town can't even communicate their own laws.
On 7/30/18 at 1:17am there were several young men playing basketball, as you can imagine when there
is complete silence at night the sound of a bouncing basketball is quite startling. We proceed to call
Southold town PD to have them removed. However, because there is no signage stating that there is no
use of the park after dark, it's difficult for them to enforce something that isn't posted in writing.
Above are just some of the most recent issues and concerns we have, there have been other incidents
such as drivers using the parking lot to do donuts and kick up dust and stones, driving on the grass,
littering etc. We have witnessed several drug deals and inappropriate use of this facility.
I am requesting consideration for noise fencing to be installed adjacent to the homes near the tennis
court and basketball court this would be one way to lessen the noise pollution. Recently signs were
installed to get patrons to pick up after their pets, how about some signage that states be considerate of
your neighbors and no use of the park after sunset.
My family is very active in the community, we are firemen, EMS, member of the PTA.
