Chairman’s Comments  Commissioner Harper presented the commission with photos of newly installed stained glass windows at his home.  Commissioner Harper urged members of the commission to the website of The Metropolitan Chapter of the Victorian Society in America (vicsocny.org) and sign a petition to landmark Tin Pan Alley.  Application Coordinator, Damon Rallis, explained that an application had been made to the building department to make “in-kind” repairs to the “Caffrey Barn”, 1270 Village Lane, Orient and noted that such work is exempt from the commission approval. Pre-Submission Conference  Richard Gilloly, on behalf of Scofield, 2355 Village Lane, Orient (SCTM# 1000-26.-1- 13) for a proposed roof replacement to an accessory building. o Commissioners previously denied a request to replace the existing metal roof with green asphalt shingles. o Mr. Gilloly brought asphalt samples to the meeting and again asked that the commission consider allowing asphalt to be used, based on the fact that Mr. Scofield’s insurance company would not accept the metal roof materials because they were not state code compliant for wind resistance. o Commissioner Harper reminded Mr. Gilloly that the issue was not metal versus asphalt and said that he would consider voting for other roof materials such as wood or synthetic materials. o Commissioner Harper checked online and found that the metal shingles were, in fact, hurricane rated and asked that Mr. Gilloly provide the commission with information from the insurance company and the manufacturer regarding wind resistance requirements.  Mark Kafaga on behalf of AW LLC, 640 Skippers Lane, Orientt (SCTM# 1000-24.- 1-10).). Additions and alterations to an existing single family dwelling on a landmarked property. o This was the second time that the project had come before the commission and the newest plans, according to Mr. Kafaga, reflected recommendations of commission members from a previous pre-submission conference. o All present agreed that they generally liked the project as presented and Damon Rallis agreed to schedule a public hearing on the project for the May meeting.  Jeff Shayne, 20 Vincent Street, Orient (SCTM# 1000-26.-1-6). Pool fence. o Mr. Shayne did not show up for his pre-submission conference.  Joan and Dan Sweeney, 4595 Skunk Lane, Cutchogue (SCTM# 1000-103.-6-3). o The Sweeneys did not show up for his pre-submission conference. Old Business  Commissioners closed the hearing of Robert and Catherine Harper, 2600 New Suffolk Avenue (SCTM# 1000-115.-9-3). Proposed additions/alterations to an existing single family dwelling on a landmarked property, with no action taken. New Business  Commissioner Webb announced that Commissioner Harper had been selected to take part in a program, sponsored by the Victorian Society in America, to study the architecture of Newport Rhode Island. Commissioner Webb noted that this was particularly important because the retreat/workshop was usually reserved for architects, but Commissioner Harper was chosen to participate. Those present congratulated Mr. Harper on being chosen.
