Attn:Pierce Application
Fisher's Island
Dear Mr. Kujawski
The above-referenced parcel was inspected on July 18, 1988 with
respect to wetland locations and potential environmental constraints.
The wetland area noted on the Chandler,Palmer and King site plan dated
June 29, 1988, seems to accurately locate a wet kettlehole depression
relative to the proposed construction apparently outside of the Trustees'
,j u~isdictio~. - ...............
Another depression was found in the southwest corner of the parcel
adjacent to the location in which the proposed driveway (already cleared)
is locateda This depression, while quite pronounced, does not exhibit
wetland characteristics, but probably acts as a watershed and should be
left undisturbed, the site plan seems to indicate that this area will
not be improved.
It should be noted that the topography provided on the site plan at
5-foot contour intervals does not reflect finer details such as small
several small depressions. In areas of Fisher's Island which abound in
"knob and kettle" topography, finer detail, such as 2-foot contour intervals
may be helpful in the review of applications relative to oarcels situated
in them.
It should also be noted that while reviewing the submission we were
apprised of a difference of property configurations as seen on the site
plan and Suffolk County Tax Map section. Both maps reference the property
as Section 3, Block 5, Lot 5.2, but the site plan clearly shows only
a portion of the referenced tax map lot. A review of Planning Board
files regarding subdivision may be appropriate.
JA:lp
Finally, extensive clearing was found on the parcel during our inspections
swaths ranging from about 10 to 25 feet wide were encountered along the northern
border (as located on the site plan), and running down the center of the
parcel, with several offshoots in the southern end. The reason for this
clearing, whether for surveying, test hole or general lay~out purposes is
unclear. However, it seems excessive and premature with respecn to
submissions relative to Trustee jursidiction. We feel that applicants
should be encouraged to minimally clear prior to review of applications
in order to avoid misunderstandings in the future.
Sincerely, .~
John Aldred~
