Plan: Erosion Reduction at Bailie Beach Lodge for Eagle Scout Service Project
The purpose of this project is to protect the Long Island Sound bluff from erosion at
Bailie Beach Lodge in Mattituck. I am a Life Scout member of Troop 39 working on my
Eagle Project.
1. I propose to erect a barrier to prevent pedestrian traffic on the bluff north of the Bailie
Beach Lodge, owned by the Mattituck Park District. The barrier will be a simple fence
(wire mesh on posts) which will run not more than 125' along the north edge of the
existing parking lot, which is south of and landward of the crest of the dune and is greater
than 10' elevation. See aerial photograph with fence location indicated.
2. I propose to install an informational signs asking visitors to keep of the dunes. The
signs will be mounted on the fence posts and will be 9" X 12".
3. I propose to replant the landward(southern) side of the three existing eroded paths
adjacent to the parking lot(the eastern end)with beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) .
