Due to the limited modifications to the property, existing conditions that were not compliant with the current NY State Building Code, were not made to be compliant with the current code during the 2007 renovations. The winder stairs from the first floor to the second floor,built in 1988, are an example of non-compliance with current code. It is unknown if the- code in effect at the time of the 1988 construction differs from current code regarding winders,but in any case, the stairs are an existing condition that would require major structural modifications to floor framing in order to provide dimensional clearances as required by current code. Due to this hardship, I respectfully request that the existing staircase be allowed to remain without modification. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
