LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS: The Recreation Department in partnership with
Peconic Landing, will be offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification courses again this
spring. Two FULL certifications courses will be offered. I believe the success of the 2018 beach
season was in part due to this course. Southold Town as well as neighboring Towns, Villages and
Park Districts all benefitted greatly from the increased number of certified lifeguards on the East End.
This course has been promoted in the Suffolk Times, on WLNG radio and will be listed in the Spring
Program Brochure. Additionally all high school principals and guidance counselors on the North Fork,
including Shelter Island, have been provided the information for their students. I also distributed the
flier to neighboring towns, park districts and Greenport Village.
COMMUNITY CENTER FACILITY: The Town has been awarded a DASNY grant to help fund
improvements to the exterior of the Peconic Community Center. Years of weathering has had its toll
on the building. The project is anticipated to go out to bid in February.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT DEPOSITS & EXPENDITURES: Following are copies of our monthly
bank statement. Please note that any withdrawals on the bank statement are program refunds for
those participants who paid with a credit card.
Sincerely,
Janet Douglass
