TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Monthly Report: December 2017
DECEMBER EVENTS:
Santa’s Visit –
The snow did not keep the children from visiting the jolly ol’ man in red on December
th
9 at Town Hall. Nearly 50 children stopped in to see Santa and his helper, Jingle. Each received a
special holiday gift. Thank you to Bob Scott and Michelle from the Assessor’s office for their holiday
spirit.
Santa’s Mailbox –
The Recreation Department teamed up with the Youth’s Bureau’s Youth Advisory
Council to assist with the response letters from Santa. Approximately 100 children received a
personal reply.
th
Radio City Christmas Spectacular bus trip-
took place on Tuesday, December 12. This
continues to be one of our most popular programs. Tickets sold out very quickly.
th
“Do As You Please” Bus Trip –
took place on Wednesday, December 6.
WINTER 2018 PROGRAMS:
th
Registration for Winter programs began on November 16 and is on-going. The on-line system has
been working well and is receiving greater use as people become more comfortable and confident
with the system. Several classes are full, but there are still many programs for all ages and interests
still open. Winter classes begin in January and run through the end of March.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
While we continue to insert the brochure into the Suffolk Times, their number of subscribers has
decreased. Alternative methods of promoting our programs are being explored. I have reached out
to the school districts for assistance. In addition to the email blasts that we send through Constant
Contact, we have also distributed fliers to the local elementary schools. The Recreation Department
is encouraging everyone to “like” the Recreation Department’s page on Facebook and “share” the
posts, as this is the quickest and most cost effective way to promote our programs.
SUMMER 2018 SEASONAL STAFF:
Lifeguard Certification Course -
The Recreation Department 2018 American Red Cross Lifeguard
Certification courses are set. The local schools districts have received the information to post at the
high school level. This information will also be shared with the park districts, village, and neighboring
Towns. The courses will be featured in the Town’s ad in the Suffolk Times.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT DEPOSITS & EXPENDITURES:
Following are copies of our monthly
bank statement. Please note that any withdrawals on the bank statement are program refunds for
those participants who paid with a credit card.
Sincerely,
Janet Douglass
