Economic Development Committee Meeting February 17, 2017
Town Hall Conference Room
In Attendance: Sara Garretson, Steve Latham, Denis Noncarrow, Rona Smith, Donielle
Cardinale
Excused: Supervisor Scott Russell, Deputy Supervisor Ruland, John McLane
Meeting called to order at 3:30 p.m.
Minutes from the January were approved with some changes made.
Guest Speaker Alex Nylias of PSEG: Alex works with businesses and helps them find ways to be
energy efficient. There is no cost for a consultation and he does site visits. Alex provided folders
with information on all that PSEG offers. The Committee is going to look into putting a link on
the EDC webpage to direct residents and business owners to PSEG’s money saving webpage.
Sub-Committee Updates: Transportation – John Stype: John has sent out emails and does not
want to do double work since the County is looking into transportation issues on Long Island. He
is going to speak with Deputy Supervsior Ruland to see what the Town Board is doing in regards
to transportation. He is also going to look into the Hopper, how it will work and where people
will park their cars.
Steve Latham: Steve spoke with a realtor. He learned that businesses are trying to reach out and
meet other business owners. The EDC determined a Communication Sub-Committee is needed.
Arts/Grants: Sara is going to approach The Suffolk Times about highlighting a business like they
used to and see if they can run articles on new businesses and also expansions of current
businesses. Grants are out there for businesses to apply for. Grants help to get the work done
sooner rather than later and are very helpful for new businesses.
Chair Person: This is Rona’s last meeting as Chair Person. The committee will vote at the next
meeting for a new Chair Person.
