Re: Proposed Dredging of Midway Inlet
Dear Sirs:
I represent the Mid~ay Inlet Residents Association for
the purpose of determir~ng the feasibility of re-opening
the inlet vo Midway Pond.
At one poLnt, Midway Pond was cormected no Peconic
Bay by means of a butkheadedinlet, q~rough lack of
periodic maintenance, the inlet has entirely filled
with sand being carried in by the littoral drift along
the shoreline of Peconic Bay. This has not only pre-
vented use of the pond as a navigable waverway; but
it has caused odor and water quality problems according
to the residents. At the present tine, nine of the
eleven owners of propervy around the pond and inlet
wish to undertake a projecv to reopen the pond. A1-
theugh no formal applications have been filed, a tenta-
vive inquiry to the N.Y.S.D.E.C. indicates that they
would consider the project at, pass upon its merits
subject to the specifics of the proposal.
At the present time, we would request that the trustees
make a si~lsr tentative evaluation and notify us if
this is the sort of project which would be considered,
favorably.

I enclose two sheets of a tentative work plan for yo~u~
consideration. Would you kindly ex~ine this material
and contact me with your opinion. It is understood
that this in no way binds you to any position and
that you reserve the right to review all ~aterial and
informatiom s~omitted with a forms2 ~pplication at a
later date.
