SOUTHOLD TOWN TREE COMMITTEE OCT 3 2017
REGULAR MEETING
TOWN HALL ANNEX BOARD ROOM Southold Town Clerk
August 30, 2017
7:00 PM
Present: Dave Cichanowicz, Gerard Orientale, Peg Murphy, Jay Jansen, Phil Goldman,
Matt Campbell, Frank Imbriano,
This Regular Meeting of the Southold Town Tree Committee was called to order at 7:00 PM at
the Southold Town Annex.
There was no meeting held in July.
Discussion Items:
1. The Fall 2017 brochures "Partnering for a Greener North Fork" were printed by Jay
Jansen and he distributed copies to each member. Diane has contacted the Suffolk
Times to reserve two pages in the October 5, 2017 edition of the paper for the
Columbus Day weekend. The Committee will now focus on soliciting local
businesses to support us by purchasing a "leaf' which will advertise their business'
donation to the Committee.
2. Dave advised the Committee that he would like to request an increase in the amount
of our Town Budget for 2018.
3. Dave hopes that the Committee will be planting about 75-100 new trees this year and
anticipates to be completed with the plantings by the very end of November. He
advised us that the Town is scheduled to cut down some big trees this Fall.
Therefore, we should be planting more trees than usual.
4. Dave also advised us that there are many dead trees on Route 25 which the State will
need to take down. He asked that the committee members try to make a
comprehensive list of these dead trees;-so we can then allocate for new ones.
5. Peg suggested that the "markers" which are at our commemorative trees throughout
Town be cleaned-up by the Boy Scouts, or maybe students from our local schools
who need to do community service. Dave will see if the Boy Scout troop leaders
might consider qualifying this as an Eagle Scout project.
The next meeting of the Tree Committee will be September 27, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in
the Town Annex Board Room.
This meeting was adjourned at 7:55 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Diane DiSalvo
