HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/2017 TOWN OF SOUTHOLD RECREATION DEPARTMENT Monthly Report: September 2017 th 2017 SUMMER BEACH SEASON: The season concluded on Monday, September 4. Due to the August hires, we were able to keep several of our beaches fully staffed through Labor Day. I am pleased to report that all of our beaches received glowing inspections reports this season. The American Red Cross paperwork has also been completed to ensure that our Water Safety Instructors receive credit for their service. This is a requirement for their recertification for next year. BEACH FACILITIES: DPW has cleaned and secured the facilities for the winter, except for Goose Creek, as the Southold Elementary School has requested use of the bathrooms for the regional Day th in the Life of the Peconic Estuary event on October 20. All phones have been placed on temporary suspension until next summer season. WINTER 2018 PROGRAMS: Iam in the process of confirming the schedule for our Winter Programs. Finalized contacts will be th forthcoming. The brochure is scheduled to be an insert into the November 16 edition of the Suffolk Times. 2018 BROCHURES: Bid requests were sent out to fourteen companies for the 2018 brochure printings. Seven responded th and four bids have been received. The deadline for submitting bids is October 6. COMMUNITY OUTREACH: I have continued to promote our programs with the assistance of local school organizations and will th be a guest speaker at the October 5 Parent Teacher Organization (PT0) meeting at Southold School. 2018 BUDGET REQUEST: Budget revisions were submitted to the Supervisor as requested. I identified where a few reductions can be made resulting in the least impact to services. I also made some suggestions on where fees could be slightly increased to help offset the shortage. RECREATION DEPARTMENT DEPOSITS & EXPENDITURES: Following are copies of our monthly bank statement. Please note that any withdrawals on the bank statement are program refunds for those participants who paid with a credit card. Sincerely, Janet Douglass Recreation Supervisor
