TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Monthly Report: July 2017
2017 SUMMER SEASONAL STAFF:
An additional six staff where interviewed and recommended
st
for hire for the August 1 Board Meeting. The new beach staff will help alleviate some of the
anticipated shortages that will be occurring for the remainder of the summer due to current staff
leaving early for college and the significant amount of days requested off.
Swimming Lessons:
Swimming lessons took place at Founders Landing and are currently being
help at Veterans Beach. We have two instructors teaching these classes, so we can enroll 12 youth
in each half hour session. As required by the American Red Cross, there is also a lifeguard assigned
to each day to watch over the classes. Each session runs Monday through Friday for two weeks.
2017 SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:
Registration has continued for the summer programs. While, several programs started during the last
th
few weeks of June, the majority began the week of July 10.
Community Outreach:
I was graciously invited to be the guest speaker at the Greenport Rotary
th
Breakfast on July 25. I attended the breakfast and used this opportunity to inform the members
about the work that is done in the Recreation Department and the various fields and buildings that are
available for use. The fall programs were also discussed with a focus on the new programs that are
being added.
