Statement of the effect, if any, on the wetlands and tidal waters of the town that may result by reason of such proposed operations (use attachments if appropriate): For the purpose of maintaining the property's historical method of protection against erosion and flooding, the project proposes to construct a vinyl bulkhead in place of existing timber bulkheading. The subject and adjacent properties have been retained and protected from flooding and erosion by bulkheading that is characterisitic of the dredged Fordham Canal shoreline since prior to 1981,and there is no other viable non-structural means of maintaining and protecting the upland portion of the property in its current location. Without replacement and maintenance of the bulkhead, the subject and adjacent properties would be exposed to severe flooding and erosional damage. The project also includes the in-place replacement of an existing Southold Trustees-permitted dockage facility(see Southold Wetlands Permit No.372,issued March 3, 1987),with the reduction in length of the permitted 100'long floating dock to an 80'long floating dock. The project will thus effectively maintain the existing conditions along this bulkheaded canal shoreline without any change in or significant adverse impact on the adjacent tidal wetlands or waters of the Town, but it will provide the ecological benefits associated with replacing a treated timber bulkhead with untreated vinyl sheathing and the reduction in the size of the existing floating dock and associated coverage of Fordham Canal. 617.20 Appendix B Short Environmental Assessment Form Instructions for Completing Part I-Project Information. The applicant or project sponsor is responsible for the completion of Part 1.Responses become part of the application for approval or funding, are subject to public review, and may be subject to further verification.
