ANT-BIAS TASK FORCE MINUTES OF THE June 19,2017 committee meeting
The meeting was called to order at 10:10am.
Members present were Susan Dingle, Loretta Hatzei-Geraci, Jean LePre, Eleanor Lingo, Christopher
North, Carolyn Peabody, David Shultz,Valerie Shelby,Cynthia Smith and Sonia Spar
Absent members were: Marjorie Day (excused), LeRoy Heyliger(excused) , Nydia Portillo Palencia,
William Ruland liason from the Town Board(excused),Dennis Noncarrow, Liason from the Town
Supervisor's office and Chief Flatley were also absent.
1. There is a motion to approve the minutes with one correction that Carolyn Peabody was absent
last meeting was made by Sue Dingle, seconded by David Shultz. All are in favor.
2. The Town Board Attorney has authorized the finalization of Louise Hugs term. As a result the
ABTF will ask Denis (Town Supervisor Liason ) to put an ad in the paper for candidates to apply
to be a member of the ABTF.
3. The Unity Picnic committee had its first meeting and they are staying with the past agenda.
Sonia reports that the town finance dept .needs a specific estimated budget for the picnic. Val
states we will not be ordering as much food this year. Letters are completed for donations and
clergy. Save the Date (august 12,2017), and all members reaching out to invite entertainment
are encouraged. Posters to advertise will be printed this week. Southold Educational Fire truck
will be asked to participate (Loretta).
4. Police-No report
5. Schools: Greenport- All children are participating in singing the song "One Nation", which
promotes diversity. Suggestion is made to try to sing this song at the picnic. Southold-budget
passed and there was discussion to bring the EE task forces together to communicate goals.
New Suffolk- no report, Mattituck-no report, Fishers Island-do we have a rep going to the island
for the trip?, Our Lady of Mercy- no report.
6. New Business
a) Volunteer opportunities-yes take name and ph# and Carolyn will create a data base.
b) David shares work of Naomi Klein . Her new book is"No is Not Enough", LEAP Manifesto
=getting people together focusing on Peoples platform.
c) Discussion re: staying in touch with the immigration issue/need for protection
d) Certification to become a part of ICE is in the process of changing.
d) We need to triple our efforts to bring more diversity and community to our picnic.
Next meeting is July 17, 2017, 10am at Southold Town Hall.
